"Cardinal Songs was commissioned by The Chicago flute club in celebration of their 30th anniversary. It is dedicated to Dr. Cate Hummel, who suggested the commission to me. The work imitates the song of the Northern Cardinal and combines it with several Venezuelan birds. The electronic part intends to present an expanded flute, rather than an actual accompaniment of the music it plays. The cardinal samples were recorded by Bruce Lagerquist, and the Venezuelan birds were recorded by the composer Miguel Noya himself. Rubén Riera did the mix of the electronic part and Diego Benalcázar the mastering. Many thanks to this wonderful team."
